We are a growing Lutheran congregation with a traditional worship service in Rathdrum, Idaho. You are invited to join us in receiving and celebrating God's forgiveness and love in Christ Jesus. Join us for worship!
Lent commences this year on February 14. This very ancient aspect of the Christian calendar helps us prepare for Easter. In an age like ours with unprecedented comfort, indulgence, ease, entertainment, and distraction, Lent offers us a season during which our hearts, minds, and eyes focus on our God and his grace. During Lent, we remember that “man does not live by bread alone, but by every word which proceeds from the mouth of God.” (Matt. 4:4, ESV). It can be salutary to fast during Lent, which could take the form of skipping just 1 meal, or all meals for a small length of time. Another option is fasting from certain comforts or indulgences (dessert, pop, alcohol, caffein, TV, video games, social media). Fasting is not mandatory, and it does not earn love from God or greater favor. Nevertheless, fasting, when undergone from a heart faithfully set on Christ and the merit he won for us on the Cross, can be a helpful way to challenge our addiction to comfort and pleasure, and focus our love on God instead of self. Lent is also a time for renewed attention to prayer, Bible reading, and worship.
We celebrate Holy Communion each Sunday except the 4th Sunday when we have a Matins service.
